Police charged the guard, Francine Bernice Jones, 45, of the District, with one count of simple assault, a misdemeanor. She is a special police officer, meaning she is licensed by the District and has arrest powers in areas where she is designated to work. She is employed by Wolf Security in Baltimore. . . .
Giant Foods, in a statement, called the guard’s alleged actions inappropriate. “Clearly, in this case, a third party security guard appears to have acted inappropriately, and we apologize unreservedly. The statement says the store views “the choice of restroom as a personal matter.”

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A security guard in a Washington DC grocery store told a trans woman in the store’s bathroom: “You guys cannot keep coming in here and using our women’s restroom. They did not pass the law yet.” With that, the guard grabbed the customer and pushed her out of the restroom, then out of the store.
Trans woman Ebony Belcher told NBC4 she was at the store to help pick up a delivery when she passed a security guard on the way to the restroom. The guard followed her in, made derogatory comments, then grabbed her. Outside the store, Belcher called DC police to report the assault. According to a police report, the guard was arrested and charged with simple assault.
The name of the security guard is not available. The Giant store’s statement said all inquiries should be directed to the police.
There are a few conflicting details with other reports, including the sex of the security guard and the guard’s relationship to the store, so I’ve left those off for now. Thumbs up to the DC police for the their prompt handling of this matter!

Cool. That’s what they get disrespecting a women’s rights to use her own leagal bathroom. You reinforce a hate crime then you get charged. She leagely female and was properly liveing her leagal gender then it was properly inforced This is how it should be handled in all areas were hate crimes take place.
He should have been charged with a hate crime .
I have to disagree Candice, he didn’t really do anything other than assault Ebony Belcher. There was nothing to show he was aiming his actions at anyone other than the one person. Look at it this way, now he has a police record, he will never work in security again.
It really doesn’t matter he laid his hands on her. End of story. He will sadly have an easier time if getting a job then any of us would.
Jenna, that’s not the definition of a hate crime, and even if it were, he said “you guys…”.
This is from the FBI’s website: “the FBI has defined a hate crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity.”
Thus, the guard clearly committed a hate crime.
He’ll end up being a police officer in some small town in MS.

All I can say is this is Totally wrong. If a Person has changed or is in the process of changing, they have the Right to go to a Bathroom of their Gender. No one has the right to decide for them. And as to Transgender’s being Mentally ILL? Really, look in the mirror ****? I was born Intersexed, Does this make me ****? Yes, to me it does, to other’s they really never heard of this. I am near my reassignment and I am Female, as of now I have a Penis, and since I feel Female, I will go to that Bathroom. But Women’s and Men’s Bathrooms are there for anyone that needs to go. It has come to my attention, that even Gays and Queers are being stopped, because they “look” like the opposite sex, Why doesn’t everybody just shut the ******! All we are trying to do is go to the Bathroom! Isn’t there something better to talk about than Bathrooms, Heads, or Johns? In the Service we all go to the Head, Think about it. And really, all I want to do is Pee or shit, otherwise I would never want to be in a scummy Public restroom!
Wow, I am happy the police actually took action. When I came out my next door neighbor hosed me down in the face with a chemical poison. When the cop arrived I gave my statement then he took my attackers statement then refused to arrest the man (even though he admitted to it) because the officer didn’t see it happen. When it went to court the judge tried to let him off with a charge of “disorderly conduct” put gave him 3rd degree mid assault. Barely a slap in the wrist for a felony aggravated assault hate crime. Well, that’s northern Arkansas for you.
