LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — The murderer of a trans woman killed in Edmonton, Alberta on November 2013 was recently sentenced to 8 years in prison. The judge accepted a plea bargain agreed upon by the defendant and the prosecutor. The victim, Rosa (aka Rose, Dido) was found dead from blunt force injuries in a motel room the day after she was killed.
The killer, Marcel Cristian Niculae, fled the country after beating the victim and leaving her for dead. Later, following contact with his parents, he returned to Canada and arrested. He was given credit for time served awaiting trial and now has just over 6 years left to serve.
In Los Angeles county, Stephen Gonzales was sentenced 26 to life for the September 2013 murder of trans woman Melony Smith in Baldwin Park. A jury convicted Gonzales of first degree murder for beating the victim to death in a motel.

Perhaps there might be a particular penalty reserved for murderers of trans women: chemical castration for the length of their jail sentences and probation. Hormone suppressors seem appropriate, considering that these murderers have conflated sex with violence and are acting out their phobias and hatred of the women with whom they seek sexual relief. Murderers of trans women are truly twisted men and a jail sentence isn’t likely to deter them once they are released. I also point out that once their T levels are reduced to manageable levels, they might possibly see the world with a different perspective and thus truly understand the depths of their atrocities.

Plea bargain. The defendant helped himself by turning himself in. He fled the country.
