LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — The TLC reality series “I Am Jazz” is being picked up for another season. The show follows 15-year-old Jazz Jennings, and show the world as seen from the eyes of a transgender kid.
Jazz, of course, is a trans role model extraordinaire who has been a positive beacon of hope for trans kids everywhere. Her numerous accolades, as well as a book and the TV series is an example of what is attainable by trans kids even when confronted with adverse conditions.
Jazz in the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal: “I have been sharing my story for almost a decade because I don’t want anyone else to feel alone or scared… I hope that I Am Jazz continues to open people’s hearts by helping them to understand what it is like to be transgender.”
The second season of the award-winning transgender themed show television show “Transparent” is now underway. New this season is the addition of a trans director, Silas Howard. Last season creator Jill Soloway directed most of the episodes herself. Soloway: “Silas is a master at exercising one of our No. 1 leadership principles: be chill. He brought an energy to the set that cultivated a safe space for experimentation and ultimately served this story with performances that hit every beat.”
Silas Howard on getting the job: “I reached out to Jill first season, because I just was excited about it, I wanted to throw my hat in the ring. I was very overt about that.”
Soloway on directing: “Directing is a great privilege. It’s a privilege to share your vision of the world with, well, the world. For too long the white cis male gaze has dominated. . . .”
Yup, more things going on than just Caitlyn Jenner. There’s room for all of us!
