LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — Once again, the “Transparent” duo, creator/director Jill Soloway and actor Jeffrey Tambor, picked up another pair of awards for their involvement in the transgender-themed television series — a directing Emmy for Soloway and best actor Emmy for Tambor for his portrayal of trans character “Maura Pfefferman” in the series.
Earlier this year, the duo picked up a pair of Golden Globes for the show, in which Soloway dedicated hers to Leelah Alcorn, the trans teen driven to suicide by her conservative Christian parents.
Soloway’s Emmy acceptance speech: “Something interesting about my Moppa [her trans parent]. She could, tomorrow, go and try to find an apartment and in 32 states it would be legal for the landlord to say, ‘We don’t rent to trans people.’ We don’t have a trans tipping point yet; we have a trans civil rights problem. So go transequality.org to pass the trans equality bill.”
Soloway also thanked Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for his support with the show.
The National Center for Transgender Equality’s (NCTE) Mara Keisling on Facebook: “Congratulations to Jill Soloway and Jeffrey Tambor for their Emmy awards this evening. Thanks to Jill for mentioning NCTE and our website, which then almost immediately crashed.”
Tambor: “I’d like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your courage, thank you for your stories, thank you for your inspiration, thank you for letting us be part of the change. God bless you.”

Crashed website or not, “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway’s callout on national TV was another HUGE PR bonanza for the trans community.
