LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — To the point: Rapper Lord Jamar on Caitlyn Jenner’s transition: “This is not just another way to be, this is obviously a sickness.” The comment was made during an interview on VladTV in May earlier this year.
Jamar, who is a member of the band Brand Nubian, and an actor in a number of television projects, says other things about Jenner, including “[Jenner can’t] have his cake and eat it too” when told of her desire to keep dating women, but with the “sickness” comment, we can conclude at this point that Jamar is clueless on all things transgender.
Previously, Lord Jamar has attracted media attention with supposedly homophobic songs and statements which he denies they were, but I’d say at this point, he out of denials and the trans/homophobic label is permanently affixed.

Kara, I was going to just ignore the guy but I found out he acted in highly regarded TV shows such as Law & Order and The Soprano. I decided he needed a wrench thrown in his acting career.

I just read this, I have had my own doubts about Caitlyn, but I agree that we need to honor the fact that other voices are present on her “reality” television, and she reaches a wide audience, so bravo. I am glad you posted this since I think that this rapper is saying what many others are thinking. I hope it’s not a majority thinking this, though gender roles are so rigid to this day, for so many in our country (USA).
