LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — Declaring the transgender ban obsolete, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter orders a 6-month study to wrap-up details which would presumably end the ban of military service for transgender individuals. This is according to a report by the Associated Press. The same source says an announcement is to come from the Pentagon later this week.
A newly created working group, lead by personnel undersecretary, Brad Carson, is to determine if the armed service’s ability to go to battle will be impacted by lifting the ban. The 6-month period is also believed the time need to work out administrative, legal, medical, and training matters before lifting the ban.
Secretary Carter in the Associated Press: “The Defense Department’s current regulations regarding transgender service members are outdated and are causing uncertainty that distracts commanders from our core missions. At a time when our troops have learned from experience that the most important qualification for service members should be whether they’re able and willing to do their job, our officers and enlisted personnel are faced with certain rules that tell them the opposite.”
Trans women Allyson Robinson, and Brynn Tannehill were quoted in the AP report strongly advocating for the move, while retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin says the proposal does not make our military more capable of performing its mission.

Retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, then, would rather discharge all of the transgender people who are already serving? Or would he rather torture them by discriminating against them while they’re still serving? I bet he doesn’t even have a good ballpark guess of how many (nor which) transgender services members he’s discounting with such a ridiculous statement.
From what i understand this lifting of the ban will allow transgender men and women to serve. However, those who are in transition would still be banned.
Perhaps this will get cleared up later this week when the official announcement is made?
I haven’t really been keeping up with other reports, nor attentive in following the news; so – can anyone clear THIS TGW / Combat Arms Army Vet up on:
Is the “ban” on ALL SERVICE, or Combat Arms / mission sensitive type positions?

I THOUGHT that TG / US Adults could already begin to enlist sometime this upcoming year; I know that the VA has worked hard to get MY gender changed in all databases to F and there IS a new Trans-Vet Center opening in Cincinnati OH; leading me to believe that there WILL BE a significant demographic zone for us within the military within the next 5-10 years.
