Transphobic donor of $100,000 finds out money can’t buy bigotry

girl scouts transLEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — “Girl Scouts empowers every girl, regardless of her gender identity, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, to make the world a better place. We won’t exclude any girl” says the Girl Scouts of Western Washington, and with that in mind, the organization returned a $100,000 donation from an anonymous person who asked that they guarantee the money would NOT be spent on trans kids.

Following that decision, the organization set up a online fundraising campaign to recover the loss — $100,000 amounted to 1/3 of their operating expenses.

In less than 24 hours, they raised over $200,000! And there are still 29 days to go!

From their fundraising site: “Every girl deserves access to a safe, friendly environment where she can stand up for what she believes in and be proud of who she is.”

Looks like someone found out money couldn’t buy bigotry. It’s a good feeling that others rallied to raise even more money than what was returned to the anti-trans donor.

Unfortunately, not all Girl Scout chapters are trans friendly: https://lexiecannes.com/2015/05/27/louisiana-girl-scout-council-cites-loophole-bans-transgender-kids/

  1. What a fantastic group of people. So uplifting when love conquers hate.

  2. The transgender community has come so far in it’s journey toward acceptance. However with all the achievements gained so far, we must not “rest on our laurels”, not until every transgender person can leave their house without fear of being verbally abused, physically assaulted, or killed for being who they are.

  3. We are working to demand facebook stop outing trans people with their real name policy. can you sign and share our petition https://www.change.org/p/facebook-cease-suspending-accounts-for-pseudonym-use
