LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — Jill Soloway, the creator of the trans-themed TV series “Transparent,” won a Golden Globe for the best comedy television series Sunday night. Soloway has a trans parent and she dedicated her award to Leelah Alcorn, the trans teen driven to suicide by her conservative Christian parents. Jeffrey Tambor also picked up a Globe for his portrayal of a trans character “Maura Pfefferman” in the same series.
Jill Soloway: “This award is dedicated to the memory of Leelah Alcorn and too many trans people who die too young. And it’s dedicated to you, my trans parent, my moppa. You’re watching at home right now. I just want to thank you for coming out because in doing so you made a break for freedom, you told your truth, you taught me how to tell my truth and make this show. And maybe we’re going to be able to teach the world something about authenticity and truth and love. To love.”
Jeffrey Tambor: “. . . I would like to dedicate to my performance and this award to the transgender community. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your courage. Thank you for your inspiration. Thank you for your patience and thank you for letting us be a part of the change.”
———
This is a huge PR bonanza for the trans community — the awards and the comments made by both Soloway and Tambor is going turn many minds towards the acceptance of trans people, not to mention bringing a much needed spotlight on triggers of trans suicide. My hat’s off to both Soloway and Tambor.
Those of you with earlier quibbles about this show ought to just set them aside for a bit while we milk this attention for all it’s worth.

Love spoken here. ♡
It’s nice to hear good news!
We must keep reminding the WORLD that transgender people are not the “cartoon characters” portrayed by people like Milton Beryl, Flip Wilson, or even RuPaul. We are your neighbor, sister, brother, family friend. Even better, we’re your doctor, lawyer, politician, police officer, we’re everywhere. Welcome us as your friend, you’ll be surprised at the wonderful people you’ll meet.
Any good news is always welcome here! 🙂
I agree everyone! Thanks for commenting. 🙂
