LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — You know you’re in hot water when your subordinates push you out the door of the very company you created — and it couldn’t have happened to a better person.
Last week, Thought Catalog published a piece written by writer and FOX News contributor Gavin McInnes titled “Transphobia is Perfectly Natural.” In no time at all the piece was universally noted as one of the most transphobic articles of all time. No small feat in a world where there is no shortage of transphobic people.
The article is still up at Thought Catalog, albeit with a “proceed with caution” warning. On their site, I looked up criteria they expected from their contributors and came across this gem:
“Thought Catalog contributors should strive to make their writing fun, smart, and creative, i.e., entertaining, journalistic, and literary.”
With that in mind, here’s a quote from McInnes’ article [Trigger Warning]:
We’re all transphobic. We aren’t blind. We see there are no old trannies. They die of drug overdoses and suicide way before they’re 40 and nobody notices because nobody knows them. They are mentally ill gays who need help, and that help doesn’t include being maimed by physicians. These aren’t women trapped in a man’s body. They are nuts trapped in a crazy person’s body.
So, back to Thought Catalog’s ideals: fun, smart, and creative, i.e., entertaining, journalistic, and literary? I don’t think so. They should pull the piece.
McInnes’ company, Rooster, an ad agency, is distancing themselves from him as fallout is beginning to impact their clients. McInnes, however, is still taking potshots at trans people via social media.
This self-inflicted drama is still unfolding. Stay tuned.

You should put a trigger warning for transphobic comment from the gays in the comments section of the gaystar news article……time goes on….not much changes….
Pushing 60 here. Transitioned and post-op 20 plus years. Doing okay.
It’s often not an easy condition to manage and many don’t do so well. But then not properly treating a serious condition has predictable outcomes. I never understand the anger though.
According to Gavin McInnes, I too should be dead for at least 10 years. On the other hand it is people (term used very loosely in his case), who have made me the woman I am today. Every time one of those like him call me, transy, queer, pervert, or the ever popular “FAGGOT”, I get stronger. Yea, I have had the dangerous end of a shotgun in my mouth. But if I had pushed the trigger, bastards like him would win. I will not let that happen. So Mr. McInnes, you go off and live in your own little world where you actually think you’re important. Just don’t think your hate will hurt me, I’ve been attacked by those a hell of a lot better at it then you are. They didn’t win either.
I know I shouldn’t stoop to name calling but Gavin McInnes is a ignorant, POS, scum sucking, vile asshat of the 1st order. I am most suspicious of his rabid & virulent tone. As Shakespeare wrote “Methinks the lady doth protest to much”. He most likely subscribes to Roy Cohn’s stated belief, “just because I fuck man, that doesn’t make me a faggot”.

Yeah in my generation it was typical to transition older! I’m 58 and things are going well, though I just lost my job. My client was looking to save money since its merger. I was last in so first out. My firm didn’t have other jobs for me so I’m finding better opportunities elsewhere. I now face tricky insurance/FSA/job hunting issues. I had my first two major surgeries scheduled for February 2015 with Dr. Meltzer. My current insurance will cover it if I stay on the much more expensive COBRA. But how do I tell a new firm I have to take off at least 4 weeks? I also want to get a third and fourth set of procedures later!

There were people in the comments thread on gawker publishing his address with the words “happy hunting” straight after discussions of his children, and this is from supposedly “tolerant” people.
I apologize if I come off aggressive, that’s not my intention and I personally have nothing against the trans community.
It just really gets to me when someone is ganged up on for their views, everyone should be able to voice their opinion without fear of retribution.
Thanks for commenting. Here’s the thing, while you look at it as “ganging” up, we’re fighting for our survival — literally. The consequences of “opinions” like this drive many to suicide, and encourages violence against trans people. Nobody kills themselves because they are trans, but rather, because they are rejected by society. (Family, friends, et al.) If left alone we’d be okay. This is especially true for trans kids.
