Deaf transgender woman murdered in Honduras

deaf trans woman hondurasLEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — On July 18th, a trans woman was found dead wrapped in a sheet lying next to a roadside on the island Roatan just off the Honduran coast. Reports say she went by the name Lele, was deaf and familiar to people living on the island.

Police initially arrested Winfield Orrin Dixon Elwin and Jacqueline Elwin Valladares, as witnesses claim to have seen the pair beating Lele. However a judge released them believing there wasn’t enough evidence supporting the charge after another witness stated having seen Lele alive after the beating. The prosecution however, has since appealed the ruling.

A family member said and the prosecution confirmed, according to the Bay Island Voice, of plans to exhume her body and have an autopsy done.

I do not know Lele’s preferred presentation, however the news reports stated she regularly dressed in female attire.

I could find only one news report on the murder and no photos of the victim.

  1. I’m saddened to read this. May her murderers be brought to justice and life imprisonment.
