U.S. Dept. of Education gives Spring Arbor University legal right to transgender discriminate

SAU President Brent EllisLEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — Once again, we’re seeing the U.S. Department of Education grant exemptions to colleges wanting to dodge Title IX equality provisions in order to legally discriminate against their transgender people. This time it’s Spring Arbor University in Michigan.

University President Brent Ellis requested the religious exemption from the DOE saying the university wouldn’t be able to operate the way it has for ‘years and years’ without it.

However, unlike the most recent college that requested an exemption, George Fox University in Oregon, the alumni of Spring Arbor are pushing back, angry about the college’s decision to openly discriminate.

SAU graduate Brian LaBenne in Michigan Live: “It is a liberal arts college, and that they can get an exemption to fire or expel people of a specific group is shocking. It’s totally backward thinking as far as social justice issues go. I’m embarrassed to have this school on my resume to carry around the rest of my life. I’m ashamed.”

The college president Brent Ellis says they don’t want to change the way they’ve been doing things for ‘years and years’. This means they will continue the tradition of transgender discrimination — this time, legally!

I’m hoping alumni and their closed pocketbooks give pause to college administration elsewhere even pondering this idea.
