This is exactly what George Fox University President Robin Baker did with transgender student Jayce Montgomery earlier this year. When Montgomery raised a ruckus and wouldn’t agree to other housing, Baker’s administration quietly requested a “religion exempt” from the U.S. Department of Education around the same time the student filed a Title IX discrimination complaint. A few months later the department gave Baker approval to discriminate.
Montgomery’s attorney, according to a report in PQ Monthly, was surprised how quickly the Department Of Education granted the university’s request. The attorney, Paul Southwick, says the university made the request in secret, and after it was granted, the department closed Jayce’s case. They were kept completely out of the loop says Southwick.
George Fox University is a Christian college 25 miles outside of Portland, Oregon. The college is not commenting on the matter.
This whole thing smells fishy. Since the college is dodging the press, I’d thought it be appropriate to run a photo of the guy responsible for trying to get away with legalized hate — George Fox University President Robin Baker.
