LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — In a case before the Illinois Human Rights Commission, a 16-year transgender employee of Hobby Lobby claims she was discriminated against following a reprimand for using the women’s restroom at work according to a story in Newsweek.

Meggan Sommerville says that after she transition in 2011, Hobby Lobby began writing her up when she began using the women’s restroom even though she has a state ID card indicating she is female.

Sommersville’s attorney says the retailer is insisting she has surgery first and noted that surgery isn’t even required to get her birth certificate changed.

There’s no word when a ruling might come.

I find it odd that this story is flying under the radar. There is only one source on this however, a report from GLAAD says they’re working with Sommerville on this case so this add a bit of credence to the Newsweek report.
