The trans person has remained unidentified and the police say there has been no reports of this incident which supposedly occurred in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta.
Basically, all we have is snippets of video posted in Vine and on YouTube. A frame by frame inspection does indicate after the victim was thrown to the ground, the perpetrator’s foot impacted the victim’s head then slid off. The victim’s body did appear to go limp immediately following the impact. But there was no footage beyond that split second. The footage also show that the crowd did not intervene to stop the stomping. The severity of the injury is not known. If the whole thing was staged, it certainly appears to have been a miscalculation — the person was hit in the face, hard.
Other footage that appears to have been filmed prior to the stomping shows a confrontation between the trans woman and some people in the crowd. It is not clear who started the confrontation or why.
In the absence of additional information and the identity of the victim, further assumptions should not be made. Atlanta Trans and LGBT advocates are asking for people’s help in identifying the people in the video. The Atlanta police department is asking that anyone with knowledge to call 911.
This incident follows another Atlanta beating I wrote about one month ago: https://lexiecannes.com/2014/06/01/two-arrested-following-attack-stripping-of-trans-women-on-atlanta-train/
