LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — Although UK comedian Avery Edison admits the visa snafu is of her own making and her passport indicates she is female, Canadian border officials in Toronto still housed her in a men’s correctional facility as they worked out her case.
According to Edison’s partner, Romy Sugden, officials told her the passport doesn’t matter, prison placement depend on what genitals show.
Reports did say Edison is segregated from the other male prisoners and is scheduled to be transferred to a women’s facility shortly.
Edison tried to re-enter Canada after over stayed her visa the previous time she was in the country and was immediately detained by border officials after her plane landed in Toronto.

Something is amiss here if her passport showed she was female. If true, processing by Canadian border authorities ought to be corrected to make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else.
However, Edison should have called Canadian authorities long before she got on the plane in the UK to resolve her visa woes. This is not a case of someone trying to seek asylum to escape persecution at home. There is no excuse for this, really.
