LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — To boldly go where no woman has gone before. The entire crew does a gender flip in a recent issue of the Star Trek comic series. Captain James Kirk becomes Captain Jane Kirk, Nyota Uhura, becomes Nnamdi Uhuro, the only male on the bridge. Now how does that grab you?
The publisher of the Star Trek comic book series says it’s a two-part story line with the first issue out now.
I like to see this kind of mold breaking, especially since the producers of the original series had to fight the network to get even one female character on the bridge of the Enterprise.
The PR accompanying the issue, Parallel Lines, hints that much thought was given to the storyline and the idea in the first place. However, I have yet to read the issue, so I’m not going to hype this up just yet. But I do hope it turns out great.
I also think Gene Roddenberry is smiling from the other side.
