THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — A small school district in Texas told a transgender student that he could not use a photo of him wearing a tuxedo in the school year book because it ‘violated community standards’.
However, coverage in the media and the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) recent involvement in the matter prompted the La Feria School District into changing their mind and allowing usage of Jeydon Loredo’s tuxedo photo in the yearbook.
The self-described ‘conservative’ school district was trying to force Loredo into submitting a photo of him wearing girl’s attire, or at least gender-neutral clothing. But the threat of a lawsuit on Friday by the SPLC prompted school district Superintendent Raymundo Villarreal Jr. into announcing a “resolution” was found.
SPLC’s Alesdair Ittelson in the Associated Press: “[this is] a signal to other school districts that transgender students should be recognized as important members of their communities rather than ostracized and subjected to discrimination.”
