THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — (Update Sept. 5, 2013 — San Antonio’s Trans/LGBT ordinance passes! See below.)

At a recent San Antonio city council hearing on a proposed non discrimination ordinance that would add protection for trans and LGBT people, a prominent opponent tweeted transphobic comments while a trans woman, Lauryn Farris, was testifying.

Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values tweet that Farris was a ‘male trying for access to the ladies’ restroom’. Texas Values is an anti-Trans/LGBT organization that was recently hit by fact checking organizations for spreading lies about the ordinance now being considered by the city: http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2013/sep/04/texas-values/san-antonio-ordinance-wont-allow-men-womens-restro/

The city council may take a vote on the matter today (Sept. 5, 2013). (The measure passed. See below.) Heavy opposition, misstatements of facts and outright transphobia is making the task difficult for the city fathers. But savvy city staffers keeping tabs on tweets and fact checking sites ought to make the final decision a fairly easy one to make.

UPDATE — Sept. 5, 2013. The pro-Trans/LGBT ordinance is approved by the city council. From the NY Times:

The City Council passed the measure, 8 to 3, on Thursday, capping weeks of heated debate that exposed racial, religious and gay-and-straight divisions and drew the scorn of Republican leaders and candidates around the state who are just starting to position themselves for next spring’s primary elections.
