THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — In a move that is certain reduce the misgendering of intersex children and the sometimes tragic consequences that follow, a German constitutional court decision made it law that a parent do not have to choose between male or female for their intersex child’s birth certificate — a third option will soon be available. In addition, leaving the sex marker blank is a possible fourth option in some cases. Germany is the first European country to adopt such a law.
The court did say that the new law would require a revamping of other German laws pertaining to related documents, such as passports. In addition, existing marriage laws will have to be looked at.
One report I looked at stated that this new law does not apply to ‘transsexuals’, but it also seemingly contradicted itself elsewhere, so I suspect either a reporting error occurred or there is more information not yet available to us.
A third option on birth certificates would have prevented the tragedy I wrote about yesterday: https://lexiecannes.wordpress.com/2013/08/19/guessing-gender-for-unwanted-intersex-baby-ends-up-in-cut-off-penis/
