THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and Delaware Governor Jack Markell each signed into law legislation from their state legislatures giving transgender residents new rights and protections.
In Oregon, the surgery requirement was dropped for a legal change of gender on birth certificates. Oregon is now one of only a few states with this provision.
Tash Shatz, Basic Rights Oregon Transgender Justice Program Manager: “This is a critical step toward safety and equality for transgender Oregonians”
In Delaware, it is now illegal to discriminate on the basis of gender identity. Delaware is the 17th state to add this protection.
Trans woman Sarah McBride: “There will be none of the doomsday scenarios that the opponents of this legislation said and all Delawareans will see that in the coming months and years ahead. The only difference will be that transgender people will be safe and secure in this state.”
