THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — This time it’s the Merck Foundation. The trigger? The Boy Scout’s own reaffirmation earlier this year of its exclusion policy for trans and LGBT people.
Most recently, Intel and UPS dropped their support of the Boy Scouts. These three likely added up to a big chunk of change.
This is from the Merck Foundation website:
“Merck Foundation has suspended all funding to the Boys Scouts of America (BSA). The Merck Foundation will consider funding the BSA again when the organization’s inclusion criteria has been expanded.
The BSA’s policy of exclusion based on sexual orientation directly conflicts with the Merck Foundation’s giving guidelines. The Foundation re-evaluated funding for the BSA when the organization restated its policy that excludes members on the basis of sexual orientation. Merck Foundation has notified the BSA of this decision.
As part of the broader review of funding decisions in 2013, the Foundation is currently assessing all current and future funding commitments to ensure that it is not funding organizations with policies contrary to its own.”

Clearly another major blow for the Boy Scouts. We’re seeing a payoff for all the time and effort transgender and LGBT activists have put into changing society’s view of the scouts. My hats off to all of them.

I think it’s time for the LGBT scouts and scoutmasters and their allies to form a new, inclusive youth organization, and seek these recently-retreated funders to support it. while the iron is still hot and the money is still so allocated.
It hurts to see BSA going down this road, I believe in the many wonderful people involved in that organization, and the mission of BSA, however with that said I am so proud of these major companys taking this stance against the hate, suttle or not concerning LGBT.
