Republicans have managed to enact legislation in a number of states beefing up the ID requirements that must be met before casting a vote. “Voter fraud” is the reason they’re using for these restrictions, but for all practical purposes, these laws were enacted by the GOP because they impact Democrats the most — the poor and the disenfranchised. By discouraging them, they’re hoping many stay home. This is especially true for trans people — stricter photo ID requirement have some wondering if they ought to spare themselves the potential chance for embarrassment and just stay home. DON’T! Go here http://www.votingwhiletrans.org and make it easy on yourself. Staying home could mean we’ll be greeting President Mitt Romney in January. If that happens, we’ll all be third-rate citizens once again.
