Tea Party member behind drive to rid transgender people of legal protection in Omaha

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Transgender people in Omaha, Nebraska, are the target of a group called the Omaha Liberty Project. Their goal is to strip the city’s antidiscrimination protection for trans and LGBT residents from the books.

They’re attempting to force a public vote on the matter even though the ordinance is  already law. The group has already filed a petition request with the city of Omaha. If approved, the group would have to gather enough signatures within a set period to qualify for being placed for public vote.

The people behind the group include Patrick Bonnett, a Tea Party Organizer, and Femi Awodele, executive director of Christian Couples Fellowship International.

Omaha City Councilman Ben Gray: “This group, whoever it is, must seem to think discrimination against some people is OK.”

Stay tuned.

  1. other than telling us how to live, think, marry, pray, vote, invest, educate our children, serve our country and die, I think the republicans have done a fine job of getting government out of our personal lives.

  2. This doesn’t surprise me in the least, the Tea Party, while they say they are for limited government and rights, the opposite is true. Government is the growing bulldog on a loose leash, and people love to enforce their fear of the unknown onto others. It isn’t wrong to be different!

  3. Anti-discrimination laws are immoral.

    • Libertarianism is immoral, too.

See how that works? How calling something immoral with no justification makes you morally superior?

Huh. Well, I don’t. Discriminating against qualified individuals on the basis of things outside their control is immoral. Trans people don’t make a choice to be trans. Trans people make a choice to transition, and the other option in that choice involve a myriad of mental illnesses ranging from anxiety to depression to self-injurous behaviors, or even suicide. To the logical, moral person, this is no choice at all.

  4. Discrimination is immoral. Since people refuse to understand that, laws are required to force idiots to behave.

  5. Surprise surprise, the Tea Klux Klan juts gave me another reason to despise them.

  6. Reblogged this on Godless0phelia and commented:
Ironic black man is against protection of a minority.

  7. Small editorial comment – trans residents are also LGBT residents, that’s what the T is for.

  8. Wait till that have a Ts sibling, or child,,, they would fight like hell for Ts rights.. Isn’t that sumthin how that works. Assholes !

  9. If you know any bigots in Omaha, let them know that Petition Signatures are public record under Nebraska law. See what happened in Washington state? When this drive officially gets underway, I hope to have people with sign out telling potential signers their personal info will be published on the web for business like InfoUSA to find.
