Obamacare bars discrimination against transgender people

A tip of the hat to Chief Justice John Roberts

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — It is now official policy — any medical entity receiving federal dollars cannot discriminate against trans people.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently stated the Affordable Care Act makes it illegal to discriminate due to “gender identity or failure to conform to stereotypical notions of masculinity or femininity”.

This statement from HHS came as a response to inquiries from transgender and LGBT organizations. Trans people who are discriminated against can file a complaint with HHS’s Office of Civil Rights.

Human Rights Campaign: “These protections are sorely needed. As many as one in five transgender patients report being refused care because of their gender identity . . .”

National Center for Lesbian Rights’ Maya Rupert:  “Transgender people face severe discrimination in healthcare settings and are often denied care completely . . .”

There should be no doubt now — discrimination against trans people under Affordable Care Act is a no-no.

On election day, remember there are those that want to do away with Obamacare. Do you really want to give up your hard-fought gains? Vote accordingly.
