THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Sorry, but you couldn’t be more wrong! As I came to realize myself, we couldn’t BUY the kind of widespread positive publicity and good will directed our way as a result of transgender contestant Jenna Talackova’s participation in the Miss Universe Canada pageant.
Vancouver, BC (Canada) LGBT rights activist Jamie Lee Hamilton: “I respect her for that [entering the pageant after being outed], but really she was entering a beauty contest that has never done anything for the gay, lesbian and transgendered community.”
Hamilton says more deserving of the honor are LGBT activists fighting the spread of HIV or those pushing for the inclusion of SRS in medical coverage. Clearly, all people who participate actively for the betterment of our community are deserving of this honor. What we should not be doing is start setting criteria that must be met before one can be a grand marshal — trans people, especially, tire of having to meet criteria for one thing or another.
The other thing — reaching the masses through popular culture is something that works really well — almost too well. The whole trans thing is a bit hard for some in our society to swallow, so if it goes down better with a beauty pageant, serve it up, I say!

Jenna Talackova took on his “Trumpness” and won… Not many people that attempt that succeed, just on that alone she is my hero. What Jenna did for trans rights is huge, and this critic Jamie Lee Hamilton is not worth fighting about.. Jamie is a small minded person who failed to see the bigger picture of what Jenna achieved.
I stand 200% behind Jenna, thank you for being willing to take on a transphobic organization..

You’re right. Jenna out trumped Trump!

like the guerilla angel report, i am of the mind that jenna has done an awesome amount of good for at least the T part of the lgbt acronym. it is at least as much good as ellen did for the L part of the acronym when she finally came out. tho i don’t like beauty contests myself, no doubt the straightest members of society watch them. and this time, they saw a bit more than just pretty women! this time they learned something

Lexie makes the excellent point that not everyone has an easy time accepting the idea of transgender and we should not shy away from any positive way to share our message.
While, I too am not a big fan of beauty pageants, I do think that the way Jenna took on the Trump empire with dignity and class, and won sends a message to the world that no amount of paid publicity can buy.
f showing that a transgender woman can be beautiful, talented and display an enormous amount of social grace in the face of a largely cis-gendered public conditioned to believe by Hollywood that transgender persons are little more than crossdressed sexual perverts is \”nothing\” — then what is the standard Jamie Lee Hamilton is trying to set here?
Seems to me that this is just another example of the internal bigotry that transgenders face all too often from the \”home team\” — the LGBT groups ostensibly fighting for our collective rights.
Yay Jenna, BOO Jamie Lee!
Thanks for commenting everyone!
you do realise Jamie Lee Hamilton is transgendered right?
