Argentina’s ‘smart step into the future’ transgender ID law now in effect

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Argentina’s groundbreaking gender-identity law puts those of all other countries to shame, especially including the United States. Simply put, if you feel you are of a different gender from the one you born with, then that’s good enough to get your gender ID officially changed in Argentina. A stunningly smart step into the future.

For the rest of the world, the current 19th Century thinking on gender ID change process needs to go away. It shouldn’t matter to anyone of a person’s gender status  — especially for government, religious or other public and private entities. The question of whether one is a genetic, cis or trans person is a question that should no longer be asked in our society. The only exception to this, of course, would be between two parties involved in a personal relationship.

Trans people don’t need third parties like doctors, judges and government officials to decide on something we already know and can do for ourselves.  Argentina is now leading the rest of us towards a future with a barrier-free, test-free and embarrassment-free gender ID change process. My hats off to them for leading the way.

  1. Couldn’t agree more! If people fall in love and want to make babies – or not – it doesn’t take a third party to work out what to do or whether they have what is required. Everything else is entirely between them and only them. State concerns like retirement age, and medical concerns like what organs need looking after, are people things, not for classification and separation. There should be no default differences in treatment between people, based on assumptions from physiology. Fraudulent claims of gender for wrongdoing are not a special case of fraud, so fear of men pretending, in order to invade female spaces are no reason for reinterpreting gender.

  2. This is awesome!!
