Ashley Ackley, Isis King
THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — Ashley Ackley served in Iraq as Specialist John Ackley, came home and transitioned to a woman. Later Ackley inquired about re-enlistment in the National Guard. It seems they were on board with plan until they discovered Ackley’s transition.
Minn. Nat. Guard’s Lt. Col. Kevin Olson: “A history of, or current manifestations of…transsexual, gender identity disorder to include major abnormalities or defects of genitalia such as change of sex or a current attempt to change sex…or dysfunctional residuals from surgical correction of these conditions render an individual administratively unfit.”
“Administratively unfit”? Really? Even after serving in Iraq?
Ackley isn’t letting this stop her. She’s bringing national attention to the matter including appearing on CNN and winning the support of national transgender organizations. She certainly has my backing. Read more here: Daily Kos: Transgender woman seeks to re-enlist.

Transgender model Isis King lands American Apparel gig
Trans woman and model Isis King, widely known as a contestant on “America’s Next Top Model” television show, is to appear in American Apparel’s 2012 “Legalize Gay” tee-shirt ad campaign. Long a popular item with the retailer, they are partnering this year with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) organization.
