See below.] Jenna Talackova, a 23-year-old A transgender contestant in the Miss Universe Canada competition got the boot for ‘not meeting requirements.’ Jenna Talackova of Vancouver, BC began hormone therapy at 14 underwent SRS at 19 and is now 23. Reportedly the organization’s rules state contestants must be ‘born female’. Talackova is said to be consulting a lawyer soon. Stay tuned.

Miami University of Ohio told trans man Kaeden Kass, a junior at the university that his attempt to be a resident adviser in an all-male dorm is a no-go. They did say he could be a RA in a female dorm though. Kass instead decided to file a discrimination complaint with the university’s dean of students for the male dorm position.
Kass: “Miami has made a commitment to honoring, valuing, and respecting diversity, and then I hand them a situation where they have a chance to practice what they preach, and they completely drop the ball.”

UPDATE – April 2, 2012 – A statement from the pageant: “The Miss Universe Organization will allow Jenna Talackova to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions.”

As I recall, Miss Universe was always a radically conservative Pagent. Recall, Anita Bryant and isn’t a famous conservative Media Icon (name escapes me) President of the Pagent? At, any rate – the beat goes on. We still have a lot of work to do!
You’re right. I don’t expect to make headway here, but there’s nothing wrong with bringing them unwanted negative PR. . . .
I don’t support this kind of pure beauty peagant but I support Jenna Talackova.
I would add however that a transwoman entering a female beauty pageant is no less progressive or no more reactionary than a transman entering a male beauty pageant like “Mr Universe” or “Mr World”. I don’t really support pure beauty pageants for men either. I think it is a double standard to assume that somehow FtM can be intrinsically more progressive than MtF.
There is nothing wrong with beauty intrinsically but these pageants tend to be excessively commercialised and too shallow.

I hate to disappoint you but Jenna was rejected from the Miss Universe Canada pageant, not America, unless you’re referring to North America.

A penis is not a “medical condition”. WTF is wrong with you? Without the help of hormones she would’ve never been a female. What’s the problem with having an all natural born female competition? It’s Miss Universe, not the guessing game.

Why is her having had gender reassignment surgery different from any cosmetic surgery the other candidates may have had?
Please leave your transphobic prejudice outside this website. For transsexual people (which is only a subset of all trans* people), gender dysphoria is indeed a medical condition. Jenna was never really born male.
What if there is a beauty contest only for white women? What would you say then?
Lol, wow, it’s amazing the load of crap that some people believe. Did you ever stop to think that the medical condition is actually quite the opposite? Considering he was physically and medically born a man, it stands to reason that the medical problem is in his mind, not his body.
If you have a point, it was lost when you uttered “crap” because that is when most of us quit reading your comment.
