THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — UPDATED: In the aftermath of calling a college kid a “slut” on the air, Rush Limbaugh found
three four seven nine of his sponsors yanking their ads, including a 25-year association with mattress maker Sleep Train of Sacramento, California.
Sleep Train has been with Limbaugh since his early days in the radio business. Although people have tried to get them to pull support before, a massive tweet campaign over the “slut” incident finally prompted the company to pull support.
Sleep Train: “We are pulling our ads with Rush Limbaugh and appreciate the community’s feedback.”
Sleep Number: Recent comments by Rush Limbaugh do not align w/our values, so we made decision to immediately suspend all advertising on that program.
Quicken Loans:“Due to continued inflammatory comments . . . QL has suspended ads on Rush Limbaugh program.”
Carbonite CEO David Friend: “Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show.”
ProFlowers Facebook page: “Mr. Limbaugh’s recent comments went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company. As such, ProFlowers has suspended advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio program”
LegalZoom: “LegalZoom has decided to terminate all current and future advertising with ‘The Rush Limbaugh Show,’ effective immediately. Our company does not in any way support or endorse the recent comments of Mr. Limbaugh.” (From the NY Times)
Citrix Systems Inc: “We have listened to our customers & have decided to cease our advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Show immediately..”
America Online has dropped Rush.
TLC has dropped Rush.
UPDATE-1 March 3, 2012.- Rush apologizes: “My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” he wrote. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”
From John McQuaid in Forbes: “The art of the non-apology apology is often crude: a condescending, second insult on top of the first, really. But you’ve got to hand it to Rush Limbaugh. He issued a non-apology apology that was much more finely crafted than what we usually get.
