THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — [UPDATED, see below.] “[the Finance Minister] walked up to us, looked at me directly, and said ‘You have to leave’. . . . ‘You spooked the governor general so you have to leave’.” — from CBC News-Canada
Gabrielle Landrie, a student at Aurora College in Ft. Smith, NWT, Canada, is filing a human rights complaint against Northwest Territories’ Finance Minister Michael Miltenberger because she feels she was discriminated against by him when Governor General David Johnston visited the campus.
Apparently Landrie was standing in an area where the Governor-General was to soon pass by when she was approached by Miltenberger. Landrie stated that she later went to study in the computer lab and was approached again by Miltenberger who said: “I thought I told you to leave.”
Landrie: “The amount of anger… you could basically almost taste it.” Landrie also said the Governor-General’s route was changed to avoid her.
UPDATED — Feb, 28, 2012: From the CBC: “In his 12-page response to Landrie’s complaint, Miltenberger admits that he told the transgender woman that the Governor General was ‘spooked’ by her, but he denies that he told her to leave the campus.”
It does appear the human rights commission is going to take some action on the matter by March 16th. More from the CBC: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/story/2012/02/24/north-miltenberger-landrie-response.html
