THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — “Hiya boy” he said to the transgender woman in a library. How many times have we all been in a similar situation? Even though we try to ignore them, they continue their relentless need to tell us and everyone within shouting distance that we are NOT a girl (or boy, if the case may be). Then we wonder how we can get away before the situation escalates into violence.
In this case, it did escalate. When Samantha Marks left the library, he began to chase her and when he caught up with her, hit her twice and knocked her over. Someone called the police and they found Ben Matthew Firth nearby. Firth was later convicted of harassment and assault and sent to jail. This wasn’t his first hate crime.
This incident ended relatively well for Samantha Marks. For many of us, it does not. Sadly, even the most seemingly innocent settings can spiral into violence quickly.
