LEXIE CANNES STATE OF TRANS — [Update: see below.] Mom says troop leader said: ‘It doesn’t matter how he looks, he has boy parts, he can’t be in Girl Scouts. “

Felisha Archuleta, the mother of 7-year-old Bobby Montoya said: “Bobby identifies as a girl, and he’s a boy . . .”

Bobby’s older sister was in the Girl Scouts and he really wanted to join, but when they went to sign up in Denver, CO, they were told Bobby couldn’t join.

After the child’s mother talked to the news media, the Girl Scouts released a statement which included this: “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout. Our requests for support of transgender kids have grown, and Girl Scouts of Colorado is working to best support these children . . .”

The statement went on to say that they’d be contacting the family to get the child involved in Girl Scouts.

Thumbs up to the Girl Scouts! I’d say the Girl Scouts are a couple decades ahead of the Boy Scouts.

UPDATE: Dec. 25, 2011. Some “horrified” Christian parents are fight back against allowing trans members by disbanding their troops:

From IBTimes: “Almost two months after Bobby Montoya was allowed to join the Girl Scouts, however, several troops in Louisiana caught wind of the story, and have since disbanded their troops in very public protest.

Susan Bryant-Snure, a mother and former troop leader at Northland Christian School in Lacombe, La. has been especially vocal about the organization’s decision.

“It goes against what we believe,” Bryant-Snure told The Baptist Press, calling the decision “extremely confusing” and an “almost dangerous situation” for young children.

Jeff Johnson, a social issues analyst in the Public Policy Department of Colorado-based Focus on the Family, echoed Bryant-Snure’s statements, saying having a boy in the Girl Scouts would be “inappropriate” and denied the “biblical truth that God made us male and female in His image.”

  1. Yet another case of gender discrimination, based off nothing but transphobia.. I wonder what was the real reason, ie what was the troop leader really afraid of???

Does she think transgender is a contagious disease???? Her princess will turn into a prince???? That troop leader has no right to be involved with the Scouting movement!!!

  2. One thing for sure, now that this got national attention, she’ll think twice before opening her mouth!

  3. If this child identifies as female, why I’m a only seeing masculine pronouns?

  4. Because that’s how our society identifies transgendered little girls- as he. My child was expelled from kindergarten for coming out as trans. I lost my job when she came out. The neighbors wouldn’t let her hear their kids.

    • That is so sad! But at least you’re standing by her and supportive of her. A supportive parent is worth a million. I wish I’d had one growing up, it would have saved a lot of wrong turns and pain and anguish that accumulated by trying to understand everything on my own.

  5. It is good that she actually got into the girl-scouts but these damn news reporters don’t know a thing about respecting people. SHE was called out of her name & gender countless amount of times. I believe one thing that has really messed up the world today is society’s gender etiquette & expectations. Things like this & my own struggle is why I have stopped using pronouns all together. To me & I sure to plenty of others they are horrible & hurtful words.

  6. While yet I agree with the out of character remarks, ” she and he,” they can’t comprehend what it is like to be transgender, nor do they care what we must endure. I personaly can’t stand it and although I’ve been through it already, I never responded to those who called me out of context. Why should they respect us in any fashion when they can’t even have repect amongst their own normalcy? We are just a huge significance that stand out from everyone else, just as all minorities ever did and always will to those who only have hate and negativities in their hearts! Knowledge is power and ignorance is the devil’s playground!

P.S. : I can sympathize with the anonymus writer, as I have gone through a similar situation with my previous employer. You are not alone!

  7. pure tranphobia in all its glory, brought you you buy a church in your neighborhood.

I am not religious but everyday I pray for a secular society,

  8. If a child is born with boy parts and wants to be a girl, and a girl scout so bad why not give em the surgery to make it legal because legally Girl Scouts are not allowed to camp or have sleepovers in the presents of those of the male sex seperate sleeping quarters and bathrooms are to be provided. Transgender aside “it” is still of the male sex.
