Transgender students and staff now protected at AZ’s Maricopa Community College

THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — MCC Board member Don Campbell: “There was a time when everyone here of different colors and different beliefs would not have been here because of discrimination and segregation. It took years to change that. I think we’re asking for another change here today.”

The president of Equality Maricopa, Dale Heuser, the group that has been pushing for this change since 2003, stated that some students who have left for other colleges while transitioning will return. Heuser, who is on the staff at Paradise Valley Community College noted that staff members have waited to retire before transitioning.  The MCC board approved this change 3 to 2.
