No segregated audiences for The Beatles
THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — John Lennon: “We never play to segregated audiences and we aren’t going to start now.” Prior to a concert at the Gator Bowl in Florida in 1964, The Beatles showed their consciences by refusing to play unless the audience was integrated. Officials backed down and allowed the integration of different races in the audience and the concert went ahead.
This profound influence on society by The Beatles was revisited when a document up for auction dealing with The Beatles’ San Francisco’s Cow Palace performance in 1965 indicated that the band would not play if the audience was segregated.
