THE GUERRILLA ANGEL REPORT — [UPDATED Feb. 6, 2012: Juvenile Services wants early release for the second participant who is now 15 — see below.] Judge tells  attacker: 5 years in jail, 5 years suspended, followed by 3 years probation for hate crime. Teonna Brown was convicted last month of beating a transgender woman, Chrissy Polis, earlier this year in a Rosedale, Maryland McDonalds. A videotape shot by a McDonalds employee of the beating brought the incident to national prominence. A 14-year-old girl who also participated in the attack was previously sent to a juvenile prison and could stay there until she is 21. Several McDonalds employees were fired after the attack.

Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger said: “When you watch the video from beginning to end, it’s quite clear that a hate crime was the motivation . . .”

UPDATED Feb. 7, 2012 – From The Washington Blade:  “The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services is taking steps to obtain the early release of a 15-year-old female who pleaded guiltyto the April 2011 hate crime beating of transgender woman Chrissy Lee Polis at a McDonald’s restaurant outside Baltimore.

According to Baltimore County Assistant State’s Attorney John Cox, DJS officials recently informed his office that they planned to petition a juvenile court judge to grant early release for the juvenile. Cox said his office will oppose the early release request at a court proceeding expected to take place later this month.”
